To have a large or excessive amount of things to do or deal with. I just have a lot on my plate right now while I'm finishing up my degree and doing this huge project for work. Please, I have three small children, and I work full-time—I always have a lot on my plate! Susan apparently has a lot on her plate today, so she asked if we could meet up for lunch tomorrow instead.

To be sufficiently busy or preoccupied with work, problems, or difficulties as to be unable or unwilling to cope with anything more.
