have beef with (someone or something)

To have an outstanding or unsettled dispute or disagreement with someone or something. Why does she have beef with me? I'm always nice to her! A: "Why does Dad have beef with the phone company?" B: "Because they keep raising their rates." Terri must still have a beef with Al because she was very careful to avoid him at the party.
