To experience a period in which something (named after "of") happens continuously. My classroom has had a real run of illnesses this winter, unfortunately. With this refund from the IRS, it looks like my run of good luck is still going! This is how people get into serious gambling debt—they start to have a run of bad luck but keep trying to win back the money they've lost.

Fig. to have a continuous series of events. (Especially bad luck.) I had a run of bad luck at the casino. The city had a run of serious crimes that angered the citizens. The company had a run of huge sales increases over the last few years.
