To be the only one who has or possesses something. If that company thinks that they can have a monopoly on telephone service, they're in for a rude awakening! As soon as the pharmaceutical company had a monopoly on the drugs, it began jacking up the prices like crazy. Luckily, that jerk doesn't have a monopoly on car sales around here. There are plenty of other dealerships I can go to!
