have (something) in writing

To have something, especially the details of a deal or agreement, in a printed, written, or typed document. We need to have these policies in writing. Otherwise, an employee could sue us for wrongful dismissal. Please send me an email summarizing this conversation. I want to have it all in writing should the issue come up in the future. It sounds like they're offering a really good discount on the car. Just make sure you have it in writing so dealer can't go back on it later.
