To retire or cease working or performing some task or duty that one has done for a long time. I'm worried that I'm going to get a ton of work dumped on me when my boss decides to hang up her hat. You're getting too old for this job, Thompson. I think it's time to hang up your hat. He's always cranky after work anymore. He really needs to hang up his hat.
