A sum of money, typically a bribe, paid to a government official or business person so as to facilitate or expedite some decision or transaction. Just offer the governor's aide a grease payment to move our building application to the forefront of the governor's agenda. Every political lobbyist knows you've got to use grease payments now and then to get things done the way you want. Sure, I'd love for my kids to go to Harvard, but I'm not giving administrators a grease payment to make that happen!
