1. An appropriate or acceptable amount of tact or discretion; a sense of what is proper or will not cause offense in a given social situation. Consider your audience—comments like that are just not in good taste. I don't doubt that the sculpture was in good taste, but I don't think it was done well. How could she possibly think that wearing such a bright outfit to a funeral was in good taste?
2. A refined, sophisticated ability to appreciate or make discerning judgments about artistic, aesthetic, or intellectual matters. Wow, I really like the way you've decorated your house. You obviously have good taste. People think you lack good taste if you enjoy certain genres of fiction, but I've always dismissed such people as elitists. Well, you have good taste—you gravitated right to a $2,000 designer handbag.
