slang Astounded, shocked or astonished. Primarily heard in UK. Not for a minute did I think this would be a winning ticket, so I was totally gobsmacked to find out I'd won the jackpot! His announcement that he had taken a new job left everyone at the firm gobsmacked. I'm 42 years old—of course I was gobsmacked when I found out I was pregnant!
