To make something available for purchase. The "block" in this phrase is the "auction block," the platform that an auctioneer stands on to sell something. If my jewelry goes on the block after I die, I'll come back and haunt all of you! Some of our most valuable possessions went on the block as we attempted to pay off my husband's medical debt. That famous musician's entire guitar collection will go on the block this summer. If only I had a few million dollars laying around!
