1. To leave some place, often without regard for those one leaves behind. Hey, you can't just knock over my mailbox and go on your merry way! Come back here and help me fix it! Stephanie is so self-involved. As long as a problem doesn't directly affect her, she just goes on her merry way without a care in the world. Billy, you can't just knock over your brother's block tower and go on your merry way. You just earned a time-out, mister.
2. To continue with one's current course of action without regard for potential repercussions or issues. Tom's never been one to listen to advice. He'll just go on his merry way, consequences be damned! You're her campaign manager, so you can't just ignore these alarming polls and go on your merry way! He will continue to break the law and go on his merry way unless the courts stop him!
