1. To avert one's eyes very quickly, especially in a furtive, nervous, or secretive manner. I could tell by the way he kept glancing away that he was lying. Well, don't stare at the pretty girl like a weirdo! Glance away! I immediately glanced away from the nude painting and started blushing.
2. To deflect away after striking some surface at a shallow angle. He raised his shield, and the incoming arrows glanced away harmlessly into the bushes. Man, I almost had it! The ball just hit the top of my glove and glanced away. When their goalie is playing his best, every shot on net glances away into the corner.
