1. To give one all of the possible options or amenities. He is a very important customer, so be sure to give him the works so that he reviews our business favorably. A: "What do you want on your pizza?" B: "Give me the works!" When the celebrity stays in our hotel, she always wants us to give her—room service, personal massages, spa treatments, you name it.
2. slang To physically assault or harass one; to rough one up. When John refused to pay protection money to the mafia, two of their goons took him outside and gave him the works. They're a dangerous outfit—of course they'll give you the works if you betray them! A: "Josh is in the hospital? What happened?" B: "It seems some rival gang members gave him the works last night. "
