informal "Collywobbles" is thought to be an alteration of "cholera morbus," a gastrointestinal illness.
1. To cause one to experience stomach upset, as owing to nausea, cramps, diarrhea, etc. Mara's been in the bathroom an awfully long time. I hope that meal didn't give her the collywobbles. Well, the dinner gave me the collywobbles, so how do you think the date went? Sorry to cancel our lunch plans, but something's given me the collywobbles, and I am really not feeling well.
2. To cause one to feel very nervous or anxious. Waiting for test results from the doctor gives everyone the collywobbles, I bet. You're on your own, buddy—haunted houses really give me the collywobbles. Just thinking about my upcoming driver's test gives me the collywobbles, ugh.
