To cause one to be in a favorable or superior position when compared to someone or something else. The team's numerous injuries could give their opponents the edge over them. I don't want to do anything that might give Sarah an edge over me in this competition. Our vast resources give us an edge over all the other companies out there. That's how we ensure we have the best and most up-to-date information.
