give (one) a/the feel of (something)

To help one to get a good sense of a situation or how to do something; to help one to gain substantial knowledge or experience in something. I'm not too comfortable in this management role—any chance you can help give me a feel of the company's daily operations? It would be good if the outgoing mayor gave the incoming one the feel of how to run a city. Working on a ranch for so many years has given me a feel of horse training.
