get wrapped up in (someone or something)

To become thoroughly or excessively absorbed, involved, or immersed in someone or something. It's easy to get wrapped up in drama in high school, but there are so many things that are better uses of your time and energy. I got so wrapped up in her during the relationship that it felt like I had lost a part of myself. Because her exams are next week, she's really gotten wrapped up in her studies.
