Primarily heard in UK.
1. To be fired from one's job. After messing up that account, I'm terrified that I'm going to get the shove from my boss. The new accountant got the shove after a miscalculation cost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars. Tommy had been warned numerous times, so I'm not surprised he got the shove after showing up late again today.
2. To have a romantic relationship ended by one's partner. Susan is just devastated—she got the shove from Kelly a few days ago. Samantha has had a broken heart ever since she got the shove from David. A: "Did you hear that Liz got the shove from Dan?" B: "Wow, I never expected those two to break up."
