1. Literally, to begin doing really fun, entertaining things at or as at a party. Hey, who wants cocktails? Come on, I'm ready to get the party started! The birthday girl's here, so we can get the party started now! Woo! Let's get the party started. Hit it, DJ!
2. By extension, to begin engaging in some action or activity with intensity, determination, or enthusiasm. Welcome to the first session of our aerobics class. Let's do a quick five-minute warmup, and then we're getting the party started! All right, if we win this game, we're going to the championships. Let's get the party started, boys! A: "The two teams are already pushing each other around?" B: "Yep, they got the party started right after the first face-off."
