1. To be spurned, jilted, or rejected by someone, especially a lover or romantic interest. Samantha has had a broken heart ever since she got the air from David. A: "Did you hear that Liz got the air from Dan?" B: "Wow, I never expected those two to break up." Molly and I have been fighting so much that I think I'd be relieved to get the air from her at this point.
2. To be summarily dismissed or ousted, as by an employer. The new accountant got the air after a miscalculation cost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars. Tommy had been warned numerous times, so I'm not surprised he got the air after showing up late again today. I'm going to get the air if the boss finds out that printing error was my fault.
