1. To begin to depart; to make one's exit. Come on, let's get on our way. I want to reach the border before sundown. I just want to get a drink of water, and then I'll get on my way. Well, I had better get on my way. It was lovely to see you, as always.
2. To begin making progress toward some goal or endpoint. Our new seminar provides all the financial know-how you'll need to get on your way to owning your own home. Have you started a petition yet? Well, that's how you get on your way to showing the mayor you're serious. How do you expect to get on your way to making this cake if you have none of the ingredients?
