2. Of a person or group, to begin experiencing a particularly successful period. Is that team really going into the playoffs on an eight-game winning streak? Boy, they got hot at the right time. Chuck's really getting hot—he just won another hand of blackjack. That guy's too streaky of a hitter. When he gets hot, he's great, but when he gets cold, he's useless.
3. Of a place or situation, to become busy, bustling, or chaotic. The restaurant is getting hot, and we're understaffed, so it should be a long night. The club's definitely gotten hot as the night's gone on. I'm just getting pushed around the dance floor now! The train station always gets hot during rush hour. You can barely hear yourself think!
