get (an amount of money) for (something)

To receive an amount of money in exchange for a particular item. Wow, I can't believe you got $30 for that old air conditioner. How much do you think I could get for these fancy headphones? I should get a good amount of money for unused designer leggings, don't you think?

1. To retrieve or obtain something for someone else. Let me get those copies for you. You have a seat, sir, and I'll get that coffee for you. Can you get the door for me? My hands are full.
2. To retrieve or obtain something for a particular thing or use. The mechanic is going to get a new muffler for my car. Hey, I got the ingredients we'll need for that recipe. Wait, did you seriously get tickets for the concert? Oh my gosh, I can't believe it!

to obtain something for the use or benefit of someone. I will get a new book for you. Sorry I messed the old one up. Would you get a glass of water for me?
