To receive a ticket (a notice of a fine that one must pay) for committing an offense, typically one related to driving. I can't believe you, of all people, got a ticket for speeding. You normally drive like a snail! Oops, looks like I got a ticket for parking next to a fire hydrant. I got a ticket because I was running late and totally forgot to put money in the meter.
