get a checkup

get a checkup

To receive a routine examination by a doctor, as to make sure that one is in good health or to monitor an illness. A: "I heard you had to go to the doctor on Wednesday." B: "Oh, don't worry, I was just getting a checkup—everything's fine." I'm doing better, but I still have to get regular checkups to make sure that my cancer is in remission. I know it's commonly held that people should get yearly checkups with their doctor, but going to the doctor—for any reason—just totally stresses me out.
