furball
1. An animal, usually a pet. I can't wait to get home—I hate to be away from my furballs for long! And who is this cute furball? Why, hello, Fluffy! I heard meowing, and I found this precious furball curled up on the end of the bed.
2. A clump of hair or fur, as coughed up by a cat. Also called a "hairball." Gross, it looks like Fluffy coughed up a furball on the rug. Oh dear, sounds like the cat is gagging on another furball. The cat seems fine now. I think she was just coughing up a furball earlier.

2. Something that is in a state of disorder or confusion. I thought relocating these files would be a straightforward process, but it's turned into a real hairball. A: "Ugh, the interns were supposed to put all this stuff in alphabetical order!" B: "Well, as you can see, it's quite a hairball at the moment." Be careful trying to untangle that delicate chain. You don't want to make it into more of a hairball.
3. Someone who is irritating or obnoxious, especially when drunk. If I get hit on at all, it'll just be by some loud hairball who'll spill half his drink on me. No thanks. I don't like hanging out with Matt when he's been drinking—he turns into a real hairball. Ugh, when Jenn drinks, she's becomes a total hairball with no filter—or volume control.
