1. Unpleasant, especially of smells. Don't drink that milk, it smells funky. You smell kind of funky—have you showered? Can you take out the trash? It's really starting to smell funky in here.
2. Describing funk music or music that contains funk elements. Typically, such music is particularly rhythmic and features a prominent bassline. Ooh, that's a funky riff—I like it! No, when I go for a walk, I need to listen to something funky, like Chic or Kool and the Gang! I'm sorry, but I just have to get up and dance when I hear a funky beat like this!
3. Quirky, different, or odd. I just love Lucy's funky fashion sense. Are blue glasses too funky for me? I don't want to look like all the other girls—I want to find a funky vintage dress to wear to prom!
4. Charmingly modest or unsophisticated. This funky part of town suits Tim's personality well. I want to open a funky, unpretentious bookstore where everyone can feel at home! A: "Well, this is a funky little rancher!" B: "Right? Poor little house gets overlooked with all the new construction going on around here."
