for (one's) (own) good

For one's benefit, even though it may not be enjoyable or desirable. I know you're mad that I won't let you eat candy for dinner, sweetheart, but it's for your own good. I'm not surprised she's upset, but she has to understand that we're doing this for her own good. It will be hard, but you need to break up with Adam for your own good. Your relationship has just gotten way too toxic.
