1. To convince someone to buy something through some form of deceit. He's a rube, so we can definitely fob this piece of junk off on him. The street merchants around here are always trying to fob their crappy merchandise off on tourists. The electronics company has been accused of intentionally fobbing faulty hardware off on unwitting customers.
2. To turn an unwanted person or thing over to someone else. Why are you fobbing Albert off on me? I don't want to spend time with that dullard any more than you do! The board of directors has been trying to fob the troublesome CFO off on a different company. Don't fob that kid off on me—he's a total brat!
