flow over (someone or something)
1. Literally, to spill or wash over someone, as of a liquid. I landed in the pool with a loud splash and felt the water flow over me. I warned my daughter to close her eyes before the water flowed over her head. Those flowers are delicate! You can't just let the water from the hose flow over them like that!
2. By extension, to cause one to feel a particular emotion or sensation. Joy flowed over me at the sight of my soon-to-be husband standing at the altar. Deep sadness flowed over me as soon as I stepped into the church for Michael's funeral. Nerves flowed over me when I took the stage, but I didn't let them derail my performance.

flow over someone or something
1. Lit. [for a liquid or something that flows] to move over someone or something. The water flowed over the land, covering everything. She slipped and fell into the icy creek and the water flowed over her, freezing her almost to death.
2. Fig. [for some kind of feeling] to envelop someone. A sense of peace flowed over her. Patriotic feelings flowed over the crowd as they listened to the national anthem.
