Nowhere close to being something; not at all similar or equivalent to something. Yes, our business is far from a success right now, but we refuse to give up. A: "Is he athletic?" B: "Far from it! But he does love sports." OK, so he's kind of nerdy and far from a model. I still think he's really cute!

almost the opposite of something or of what is expected: It is far from clear (= it is not clear) what he intends to do.Far from being grateful for our help, she said we had ruined the evening.
