1. To begin a particular journey or trip, as on some mode of transportation. Do you know when Karen embarks on her trip for Rome? I want to see her before she leaves. I don't embark on my vacation in Spain until the 12th, so I can help you until then. A: "When do you guys plan to embark on your drive to Niagara Falls?" B: "Ideally, as soon as we get the car loaded up!"
2. By extension, to begin any course of action. I want to go back to school for a business degree, and I plan to embark on that process this fall. You need to embark on the payroll audit soon because it's going to take you a while I try to embark on my Christmas shopping as early as possible because I refuse to be at the mall on Christmas Eve!
