eat (one's) greens

To eat one's vegetables. Commonly used as an imperative, as by a parent to a child. Come on now, you won't get any dessert unless you eat your greens. Now that I'm an adult, I'm a lot better about eating my greens than I used to be. She's eight years old, of course she doesn't want to eat her greens!
