To embarrass one, often by revealing unflattering information. Primarily heard in UK. When Paul told the boss about my role in the printing mishap, he really dropped me in it. We were all careful not to drop Henry in it and talk about his crush on Caroline in front of her. You told Mom I'm the one who dented her bumper? Ugh, thanks for dropping me in it, bro.

(British English, informal) put somebody in an embarrassing situation, especially by telling a secret that you should not have told: Don’t mention Paul to my parents or you’ll really drop me in it — I haven’t told them about him yet. OPPOSITE: get somebody off the hook
