draw play

In American football, a play in which the quarterback moves as though he's going to pass the ball but then hands it off to a player running toward the line of scrimmage. They scored a touchdown after their quarterback totally faked out the defense with a draw play. If you can't sack the quarterback, watch out for the running back, in the event that they try a draw play. Though the draw play was successful, they were only able to pick up a few yards—not enough for a down.
