2. To cause something to continue for an excessively long time. In this usage, a noun or pronoun can be used between "drag" and "out." I wish management would quit dragging things out and just give someone the promotion already. Please don't drag out your story any longer—get to the point! Of course they have to drag things out with yet another commercial break before announcing the winner.
