drag (someone or something) through the dirt
To say or do something that damages someone's or something's reputation. It's very unfortunate that a disgruntled former employee has begun dragging our company's good name through the dirt. Once you're that famous, the tabloids just constantly drag you through the dirt. I'm trying to maintain a fair and respectable campaign, and Brad totally dragged my name through the dirt!
