double the parts

theater To have one actor play two different parts in a production. Because one of roles figures prominently in the first act and the other in the second act, the director chose to double the parts. I try to double the parts for underclassmen so they get to say a few lines in each production. Do they seriously expect me to double the parts of Iago and Othello? It might as well be a one-man play then!
