don't judge someone until you have walked (a mile) in their shoes

don't judge someone until you have walked (a mile) in their shoes

Spend time trying to consider or understand another person's perspectives, experiences, or motivations before making a judgment about them. I know that certain people can come across as selfish or mean-spirited, but don't judge someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes. A: "Cheryl is just such an irritating, arrogant jerk!" B: "There might be all sorts of things going on in her life that you don't know about. Don't judge someone until you've walked in their shoes, that's what I say." Come on, quit making fun of that guy. Don't judge someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes.
