To appear in a way or make an impression that causes oneself to be regarded favorably by others. You want to cut a good figure at the job interview, so make sure you wear a suit and carry a briefcase—even if it's empty. Trust me. A: "My, you certainly cut a good figure on the slopes." B: "Thank you, but you should know that I am quite an experienced skier." As long as you're composed and confident, I know you'll cut a good figure in front of the class.
