come to (one's) knowledge

To be noticed by one or enter one's awareness; to be brought to one's attention. Once the employee's complaint of mistreatment came to my knowledge, I knew I had to address it right away. It has come to my knowledge that you actually bought this term paper you handed in. That's a big problem. I swear, it never came to my knowledge! Someone intercepted the report before it ever reached my desk.
