To occur immediately or very soon after something, especially that which is very unfortunate or undesirable. The team's championship victory was bittersweet, coming on the heels of their coach's untimely passing. The announcement of the company's bankruptcy comes on the heels of its CEO's sudden resignation just a month prior. The new revelation comes on the heels of the previous scandal.
