To listen to someone or something intently. You need to cock an ear at your teacher when you're in class so that you know what your homework assignments are. To look at someone or something intently. I cocked an eye at my guitar teacher to try to follow along with the chords he was playing. No, I didn't cock an eye at the map because I thought I knew where I was going! A: "Hey, did you cock an eye at that mysterious note yet?" B: "I did. Sorry, man, I don't recognize the handwriting."
