To listen to someone or something intently. You need to cock an ear at your teacher when you're in class so that you know what your homework assignments are. Would you quit goofing around and cock an ear at me already? This is serious! A: "You didn't cock an ear at your professor during yesterday's lecture?" B: "No, I was just trying to stay awake!"

cock an eye at (someone or something)

To look at someone or something intently. I cocked an eye at my guitar teacher to try to follow along with the chords he was playing. No, I didn't cock an eye at the map because I thought I knew where I was going! A: "Hey, did you cock an eye at that mysterious note yet?" B: "I did. Sorry, man, I don't recognize the handwriting."
