close the face

close the face

To bring the flat side ("face") of a club, such as a golf club or cricket bat, closer to one's body before striking the ball. If you close the face, you'll get a better angle on your drive. Mady's a pretty inexperienced golfer, so telling her to "close the face" will probably just confuse her. Close the face, just like that, and, wow! Look at that drive!
