close talker

informal One who stands uncomfortably close to others when speaking to them. Popularized by the US sitcom Seinfeld. He's a nice guy, but he can be a bit of a close talker. I don't really enjoy smelling someone's breath when I chat to them. Is it rude to ask a close talker to back up? I just value my personal space. Uncle Pete can only hear out of one ear anymore, so I bet that's why he's such a close talker these days.
