To try to recall something. This phrase is usually followed by "to" and a specific time period, instance, or event. OK, cast your mind back to freshman year—can you remember who our English teacher was? I did cast my mind back to last year, and I still can't remember where I put that box of Christmas decorations! Ask Scott to cast his mind back to the game last Friday. Who hit the game-tying home run?
