crank caller

Someone who makes a phone call, usually anonymously, as a practical joke or mischievous trick. The caller's message is usually wacky or makes little sense. A: "Who was that, honey?" B: "Oh, just some crank caller asking if our refrigerator was running." A: "Why have there been so many crank callers all of a sudden?" B: "Probably just kids on summer vacation looking for ways to pass the time." I wish crank callers would at least come up with something original. Asking about "Prince Albert in a can" is, like, the oldest trick in the book.

shot caller
