To suddenly exhibit a particular emotion or perform a particular action. My mother was fine this morning, but she burst out in tears at the funeral. I don't know what I did wrong, but Hal burst out in a rage when I approached him. The kids burst out in a fit of the giggles when the clown fell down on stage.
