To make something usable or functional. We intend to bring a fleet of new buses into service later this year. We encountered some unforeseen issues, so no, we can't bring our new system into service just yet. The new project aims to bring abandoned buildings into service as accommodation for the homeless.

to begin to use something; to start something up. They are bringing a much larger boat into service next month. A newer machine will be brought into service next year.
