1. Literally, someone or something covered in blood or gore. The poor guy was a bloody mess because his face hit the pavement when he fell off his bike. The horror film's villain is a monstrous killer who tears his victims apart, leaving a bloody mess behind him. After the shooting, the crime scene was a bloody mess full of dazed onlookers.
2. A situation that is in a great state of confusion, chaos, or disorganization, especially due to being bungled or mishandled. Primarily heard in UK. The bosses had no idea what they were doing, so the whole company was just a bloody mess by the time I left. It's been a right bloody mess in that country ever since the military seized power. I dropped all of my printouts, and now they're a bloody mess. Any chance you can help me sort them out?
